Review Erik Neuteboom
The RUSHfest Scotland was founded late 2013 by Steve Brown, it is an annual one-day fan convention
celebrating Canada's finest musical exponents Rush. RUSHfest Scotland has produced 3 albums of Rush songs covered by Rush tribute bands from around the world — including Jacob Moon (Canada), Fleesh (Brazil), Moving Pictures (Scotland) and many more.
These limited edition albums are available on CD, coloured vinyl and download — with all profits going to Cancer Support Scotland in the UK and Glioblastoma Foundation Neil Peart Research Award in USA.
third one is extra special, with the release date 12 Sept 2022, because it’s on Neil’s his 70th birthday. All artwork for this volume 3 is by Hugh Syme. The 23 Rush songs are covered by artists from around the world including Clockwork Angels (Scotland),
David Barrett (Canada), Leoni Jane Kennedy (England) and Lotus Land (USA), and featuring special guest appearances by Terry Brown and Darren Redick (Planet Rock).
As a huge Rush fan since 1977 I was very
curious to this project, it is my first musical encounter with the Songs For Neil Volume series. Well, I am impressed, the musicians sound skilled and inspired, and succeed to generate the distinctive Rush climates. From the early tracks like Something For
Nothing (with high pitched and screamy female vocals like early Geddy Lee) and the epic The Necromancer (powerful guitar work) to the awarded instrumental YYZ (excellent flamenco guitar intro and a vivid drum solo), Closer To The Heart (community singing,
great atmosphere!) and the compelling Digital Man, a very tasteful version.
I am in the mood!
